I tried this today, but Gramofile says it only works with wav files, I have

Honestly, I just don't see the problem with Audacity: I've just ripped 
the Arizona Dream DVD, transcoded it and loaded the 216mb mp3 file into 
Audacity to find the bit I was looking for. This is on an Athlon 2000 
machine with 512mb, and I was transcoding another huge avi file at the 
same time: it took a while for the file to load into Audacity, but it 
was perfectly responsive and eminently usable.
