I have had the same sucess as Glenn.  I downloaded the SuSE rpm build from the 
KDE site into a directory and bulk installed it with rpm -Uvh --Force and 
everything works fine except I can't execute konqueror as superuser or it 
will crash.  This is a well documented bug.  I can however open a terminal 
window and issue a xhost +localhost command, then go su, then start konqueror 
as su and it works fine on my SuSE8.1 system.  FWIW
