Thanks - I have a /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF directory.
I'll run SuSEconfig & see how it works then.

Don't need to. Once your ttf fonts are in the proper dir, in 8.0 it's:
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype
run SuSEconfig and ALL fonts will be available to ALL apps.
