Sorry for troubling you, Im trying to set this up for a local charity.
I'm unclear as to whether smpppd is a replacement for diald or whether I still 
need to install diald for modem dial on demand.
Yast2 asks whether to allow dial on demand ??

The suse 8.0 documentation is a bit sparse about this
