My DSL link is going live today c/o Pipex too, so all I tell you is
strictly in the realms of "I've not tried this yet..."

Alcatel support Linux, kind of, point your fave browser at
www.speedtouchdsl.com - you can get drivers there.

I'm going to be using Smoothwall as a gateway, it supports the
Speedtouch Frog out-of-the-box (provided you supply it with Alcatel's
binary firmware)...
