greetings!

did an ftp upgrade of 7.2/7.1, which went remarkably smoothly (but 
for annoying error messages having to do with tar's inability to . . 
. tar), on my notebook, a thinkpad 760. there is, though, a problem, 
whenever sound as employed, as in kde startup, realplayer doing 
anything, and kde shutdown: the first second and a half or so of any 
sound plays -- then it plays again. and again. and again, until 
something stops it. (shutting down kde now sounds like ship's bells 
mourning the crew lost at sea that day.)

has anyone else encountered this? and if so, how (if you did) did you 
fix it?
