To answer you on freezing plasma: no. There has been recently a long discussion on \
factory about plasma freezing. Go to http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/
First post is from 29.11 by Michael Hirmke Title: plasmashell freezing. 
I did not follow the thread but I wouldn't be surprised if this happens for the same \
bug.

Well first of all would be dmesg and also journalctl to see if there is a system \
related problem.  For the rest somebody expert of KDE will surely tell you. To get \
real help you will have to be specific about your hardware.  Hibernation often is \
very hardware dependent.  Hope that helps.
