I recommend you have a look at the dar (disk archive) utility, and - under KDE 
- at kdar, a very nice grahical frontend to dar. You'll find all necessary 
information at http://dar.linux.free.fr/ and http://kdar.sourceforge.net/. 
Both programs can be easily compiled from the source distribution, if SuSE 
doesn't provide the latest versions for your distribution.
