Yes I have also done this and had to install libidn from suse9.1 dist for my 
8.2 system.  On the other system I didn't (it has been heavily modified and 
running since 8.2 first came out).  I dont understand why SuSe didn't ensure 
these files were included with their latest build.  Me thinks they don't 
really want to support the earlier products and want people to upgrade.  I 
suppose it is about time I bit the bullet but I am a little apprehensive as I 
have so many updates (some rpm and some compiled) and I do not think it will 
go smoothly (experience I had the same situation when I migrated 7.2 to 8.0 
and then to 8.2.  Eventually I reinstalled 8.2 from fresh.
