I have just posted a comment in the Guestbook on the web site. And I have no
objection to your reposting of any messages sent to the list. I feel that this
is a public forum and the messages are in the public domain.

It consantly amazes me how corporate weenies with little understanding of (1)
the subject matter they are railing about and (2) even less understanding of
the business model of the industry in which they are employed, go off on the
persecution of the very grass roots support system that enables their business
in the first place. I don't think that its a "money corrupts" or
McNealy-has-lost-focus-of-Sun's-roots question. I think it's simply a case of
a mid-level corporate guy misunderstanding the business issues and going off
on an ill-advised religious crusade. This happens again and again and again--
EToys.Com, Amazon.com, etc.) Remember that when you become a big company, a
significant percentage of your employees are jerks.

I own a mess of old Sun boxes (a Sparc 4, three Classics and an IPC) and I get
some perverse pleasure fiddling with them. But having worked in the IT arena
for almost 30 years, I can say with great authority that Sun boxes have
lifetimes long beyond their "production" years. I can name five major
companies in the Washington, D.C. area that use "surplused" Sun boxes in lab
and test envionments. To keep thes puppies going, having a source of
information and resources like SunHELP is invaluable.

Hopefully, reason will prevail. Bill, you provide a valuable service. And I
don't want to see it hampered in any way. At the end of the day, I hope that
Sun will recognize SunHELP as the asset it is, not a threat.
