As far as I can tell from a quick skimming of the bug report mentioned
above, the problem is related to the Cyrus IMAP server not accepting
non-RFC-compliant e-mails. I assume that you use Cyrus, since you
experience this problem.

If you (or someone else) can verify that the mails follow the RFC format
when being fetched from the POP3 server and that it's the mail_fetch
plugin which is responsible for corrupting them before delivering them to
the IMAP server, it's a SquirrelMail problem (but I doubt it). There is,
of course, a possibilty to modify mail_fetch so it tries to fix the
problems caused somewhere upstream, but the real solution is, as mentioned
before, to fix the offending software (Lycos or FreePOPs, my guess is the
latter). I suggest you open a bugreport regarding FreePOPs (since it's the
Lycos webmail to POP3 converter).
