Just thought I'd post this out to see if there has been any work done 
already.

At the moment the user can select between showing the unread 
notifications for either just INBOX or ALL FOLDERS.

May I suggest that this be made finer grained?
Both for UI and performance reasons.

Basically there are certain folders that are just for archiving. They 
are never going to hold unread messages. Why waste resources polling 
these for unread messages on every folder list refresh?

There are other folders - INBOX, Junk etc that have emails filtered into 
them on arrival. These should show the unread message count.

I imagine the ability to set the count for these but not for others will 
be easy to implement in the new per-folder-settings paradigm touted for 
the next squirrelmail (1.6?) version. Of course if it can be integrated 
for 1.4.x in the form of a plugin it would prove useful.
