The problem persists because of the way Mozilla handles session
cookies.  It is sharing the information between tabs.  From what I
remember, IE6 will keep the sessions independent when you open a new
window, this depends on how you spawn a new window too.  If you open a
new window by double clicking on the IE icon, it seems to have
independent sessions, however if you go to File, New Window, they
seem to share.

See the thread "Cookieless SquirrelMail a Pipe Dream?".  While it
might not seem applicable, the understanding of removing cookies, will
lead to a resolution in this cross session smashing.
