I think you meant the options:
options MAXDSIZ="(256*1024*1024)"
options DFLDSIZ="(256*1024*1024)"
or you might just up the maxusers option to 256 or 512 in your kernel config.
which will allow the process to grow in memory, not necessarily in file descriptors.

This looks like a good way to hose the box completely. I vote for the options of \
the first poster. see login.conf(5) and set up login classes for process limits. \
Don't forget to rebuild the db as described in /etc/login.conf.
