In fact the setting you need to change is play.port - I think for mixerctl
this is output.port instead but you get the idea.

Nope.  Audioctl is the one I used.  You'll probably have to check the man
page on it.

Another command that you should check is mixerctl.

I know either one of these do this.

There is no -o option to audioctl.  Did you perhaps mean some other command?
