Current console is not autoswitching. [Pity!]
Why not teach kernel and userland to do this properly?
If kernel detects serial console, then switch /dev/console major/minor
numbers to match that or serial line in use.
Boot up programs check if major/minor numbers of /dev/console match
either /dev/cua0 or /dev/cua1 and if so do something appropriate.
