Hey everyone,

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=838122 needs a wider 
audience / consideration.

First there are problems with the bug itself, as it appears to be about 
two different issues (see comment 10).  However one of the issues (and 
the one that is currently receiving attention) is that a customer would 
like to be able to use the tool to merge a parent channel and several of 
its children into a grand unified cloned channel.

As far as I can tell we have never allowed merging multiple channels 
into a single clone, and it may be that we've only allowed transitioning 
from child to base as an accident (it currently works from the API, see 
comment 13). What are some problems / complications that can arise from 
merging a channel tree down into a single channel like this? Is this 
something that we should allow?
