A simple (stupid) question :
Did you or someone else open the template file with a wysiwyg HTML editor ?
If the answer is YES you may want to have a look at it because some editors 
(Its the case with Dreamweaver) mess up the headers whent opening a file 
starting with the {conf.. } call.
