I added a very small change to datepick that highlights today with a different
background color.

in datepick.tpl:

{foreach name=row_loop from=$row item=col}
>>        {if $smarty.now|safe_date_format:"%Y-%m-%d" eq $col}
>>            {assign var="bgcolor" value="#cccc88"}
>>        {elseif $curr_date|safe_date_format:"%m" eq
$col|safe_date_format:"%m"}
