Hi!:

In my Fedora 11, yesterday a popup appeared telling me that my disk
is failing. It is the second disk i see this error. I cant believe
that just after 1 month of use, this disk is begining to fail.

So i tried smartmontools on Windows 7, and effectively the output of
the test is the same as in F11. The attribute being marked as the
critical is number 5. The output in Windows 7 looks like this.

smartctl -a /dev/sda

ATA/SATA driver is possibly a SCSI driver not supporting SMART.
If this is a SCSI disk, please try adding '-d scsi'.

As you can see, attribute 5 is giving me:

  5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 100 100 000 Pre-fail
Always - 2

I dont understand SMART very well yet, but by reading lots of posts on
mailing lists, etc... i have a minimal hope on that, maybe F11 gives
me a warning when it must not?

Please, can anybody tell me if the report effectively tells me that
this shiny new Seagate Barracuda 1TB will soon fail til die? Or is a
misinterpretation on F11 behalf?

Thanks in advance. Hope for the best!

Javier
