I'm having a problem running a "long" test on new ST3300831A 300GB
drive.

When I run the long test, the drive reports "90% of test remaining" and
stays at that stage forever. (I've let it run for days).  I tend
to think the problem is with the drive (as opposed to smartctl) as

	- a "short" test completes in the expected time
	- other disks pass both long and short tests in the expected time

but, I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this, or if there is a
workaround.
