You are mis-stating what I said. I said that SMART (which is part of the
drive firmware, unrelated to smartmontools) can only predict 1/2 to 3/4 of
drive failures.
Smartmontools reports (with 100% accuracy) what the drive firmware is
reporting.

The values reported by smartmontools are the ones that the drive firmware
reports. But you need to read the documentation -- in particular the
parts that say that 'raw values are not defined by any standard, and so
each vendor uses them in their own undocumented way.
