Bingo! I didn't try removing the duplicated jaxp and xerces before, 
because i would have thought a sealing violation would have been 
reported in respect of each servlet in each webapp which uses xml 
(certainly this is what used to happen when i had conflicts between 
xerces and crimson), instead of just by slide.  But problem solved, so 
thanks .. Jason
