Hi,

I have a question about maddr parameters in From and To headers. I read
section 19.1.1 of RFC 3261, and my interpretation is that the
maddr-parameter is a parameter of the uri, and not of a From or To header.

From that section I understand that the maddr parameter is not allowed
in the From and To headers and should be ignored.

But what if we receive a request with the maddr parameter as follows:

To: <sip:0043720214980@domain.com>;tag=4944;maddr=host1
From: <sip:5@domain.com>;tag=1215769166;maddr=host2

Syntaxically, it's not incorrect (To and From headers can contain any
'param=value' pair), but I guess it's not the correct use of the maddr
parameter eather?

The problem is that we clone the To and From header (and add a to-tag if
necessary), so if we receive a request with maddr parameter in To and
From header (or the uri) the maddr parameter is also present in the
response. The question is, should the UA be aware that the maddr
parameter can also occur as a parameter of the From header. Should it be
stripped from the To and From header in the response?

kind regards,
Sigrid Thijs
