That entirely depends on the implementation. If we need to allow your proxy
server also knowing about the DTMF digits, we will use SIP INFO message as
it will be through the signaling path. Otherwise, if we want to avoid the
proxy server from tampering or knowing the DTMF digits, we will put in the
media path in RTP payload.

Hi Shivani,

DTMF digits can also be sent using INFO SIP messages instead of RTP
payload.
Any specific advantage of using RTP of this purpose ?

Asheesh.

Once a provisional reponse (183 Session In Progress) completes the first
offer-answer, the UA can surely send or listen DTMF digits. And these DTMF
digits can be passed whenever they are pressed, interepting the ringing
tone. Infact, Some services, usually free-toll-number services, try and
avoid being charged extra by deferring acceptance of a call as long as they
can, relying on still receiving DTMF digits over the half-connected call.

Hi *,

RFC 2833- passing DTMF digits thru RTP payload.

When trying to reach an IVR application, where in I select some option by
pressing the required digit. Now when does the digit get passed.Does it get
passed as on when the digit is pressed( early media) or it waits for 200
OK(for INVITE) from the IVR to finalise the session and then the digit will
get passed.
Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Vinodh
