Someone wrote to me thinking I had announced a sendmail virus. I know of no
memory leaks or viruses in sendmail.

I was just trying to say that sendmail forks at least four processes every
time it passes a message, so if you are passing a lot of mail, you would
expect to see a lot of processes. The Code Red virus that attacks Microsoft
systems has been really loading down the network with messages lately, so I
expect many firewalls to be more busy than usual. As far as I know,
sendmail kills most of the processes and gives back the extra memory when
the mail flow stops.

Squid uses dynamic memory for caching, so it does not necessarily give back
all the memory when the traffic stops.

Sorry if I caused any confusion.

I am not aware of any leaks in 5.1.1, but you are running Squid; it uses RAM
for caching. As I recall, it is allowed to take a pretty big chunk of RAM.
With the mail viruses flying around, it is also possible that send has open
connections the to places where it is having trouble delivering the mail.

Are there any known memory leaks in 5.1.100?
After running server for 10days, 16hrs, free memory was down to 124MB.
There were 191 sleeping and 2 running proccess.
After a reboot, I now have 174 sleeping and 2 running proccess after 2hrs,
57mins, with 259MB free memory.
Major processes are SQUID, MySQL, and sendmail processes.
