In that case, you end up as user2 at SP1 and user1 at SP2 for as long as
the original SP2 session lasts.

Yes. Which is not what you wrote above.
They don't have to be tabs either, tabs have nothing to do with it. A tab,
a window, or a page that started at one and went to the other doesn't
change anything, it's one browser.
