Hello,

if you run sems with

gdb --args sems -f sems.conf -D 3 -E

and if the exception occurs do a 'backtrace', what does it show?

Alternatively, in these cases you can run
  ulimit -c unlimited
before starting sems, and later do
  gdb sems core.<pid>


Are you using the latest SEMS version?
it is recommended to use SEMS 1.1 or trunk version, i.e. do
svn co https://svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/sems/trunk/

You can find the example applications in
  apps/examples
  apps/examples/tutorial

Sorry if the application development tutorial pdf still references an 
old version.
