None of my replies went out (some issue with Outlook).
Switch to .NET Core, not a script. You need Excel files not Excel the application.
Hopefully, this email makes it out.
Thanks,

It sounds like you'll be replacing one fragile solution with another. I'm with Roger \
— this would be better handled finding software which will create the file layouts \
you need (or living with the best SAS can offer).
Cheers

Thanks to everybody for your suggestions.
Unfortunately, I couldn't get any of them to work. Either our internal IT \
Department, or Microsoft, or maybe Mordac, the Preventor of Information Services have \
something against me. And the stories of the vulnerability of DDE sufficiently \
scared the BeJesus out of me.
So, I'm going to replace the DDE calls in my programs with AutoHotKey scripts. At \
least I know that still works and I've got some familiarity with it from another \
project, so I know I can call them from SAS.
Thanks again for putting up with me!

Other Options
You can update excel in place, do arbitrary layout of SAS output and of couse SQL \
passthru processing.
Even read excel colors and other formatting.
Also there is R and Python packages such s
Python
openpyxl
R
XLConnect
XLSX
and others
Perhaps you need DDE but without knowing your problem it is impossible to help.
