I have about ten years experience writing SAS files to tape under MVS, and I
think I have encountered every problem. Send your JCL and SAS code and let
me know what version of SAS you are using and I will be happy to help.

Subject: Writing to a TAPE
I am having a bit of hard time writing to tape a dataset in MVS:
My dataset has around 3M obs and LRECL=400 bytes. I am using SMS to
pre-allocate the work
file using EXEC=IEBFR14 and then allocate it over multivolumes. I want to
read in the text file and then write it as a SAS file to tape-I use
UNIT=AUTO. But I get an error and when I check the log it says that around
990,000 records were read in but none written to SAS file (on tape)-reason
File full or damaged.
Is it the work file that is not big enough to handle everything or is it a
limitation of the tape.
Thank for advise.
MH.
