1) No.  However, many people subscribed to the list get switched to digest
for one reason or another.  Try sending the server (NOT THE LIST!!) the
command SET SAS-L MAIL.  See the FAQ for details.
2) Not exactly.  www.dejanews.com often works for me.  See the FAQ for more
ideas.
