First check your current version:

    ldd `which smbd` | grep cups

should output something like

    libcups.so.2 => /usr/lib/libcups.so.2 (0x4002f000)

Or, in Samba-3, use

    smbd -b | grep -i cups

and look for

    HAVE_CUPS
