| does anyone know if i am missing a library or what ?

Solaris systems change a lot between releases and vsnprintf is a
relatively new function. It isn't available in 2.5.1 but it is in libc
in 2.6. As a rule of thumb I try to compile on the oldest system I'll
be using.
