FYI: Per Oyvind identified the failure case as
	%doc %{_docdir}/mumble
and so added the remove to prevent a path into %{buildroot}
from being removed.

Well, even if %{_docdir} "works", its not correct. WHich
means the change should likely be reverted.

He's promised a toy specfile reproducer for the problem,
stating the expectations.

The real flaw is that %attr et al doesn't scope across %doc
correctly because of the bleeping scriptlet used to move
files into place. These days the copy, with possible
sub-directories, isn't that hard to code up using Fts(3).

I'll try to do the Fts(3) tree copy implementation with a toy spec  
reproducer.
Otherwise this %doc code is so snarly and boogered up that I don't dare
touch much of anything.
