You'll want to use something like ncftp.  You can use it to create a 
single command to grab stuff.  Like this:

	ncftp ftp://ftp.redhat.com/somedirectory

You'll want to check the man page on ncftp.  There are some parameters
you can play with that will provide things like recursive gets, etc.

>From there... I *think* (haven't played with it in a while) that you
can run your command in the background like this:

	ncftp ftp://ftp.redhat.com/somedirectory >> log.txt > &

If I recall correctly, that will allow the command to continue after
you logout.
