In your /etc/X11/XF86Config , you add your resolutions under
Section "Screen"
Modes "1152x864" "1024x768" "etc" "etc"
restart X
Then while in X, you would hit ctrl-alt-+ and ctrl-alt-- to cycle
between them (if I remember right, its been a while).
