net-pf-4 is ipx and net-pf-5 is appletalk. if you have rebuild your kernel without
support for one or all of these protocols you must tell it not to look for them
at bootup (standard behavior).
edit (make) the file /etc/conf.modules and enter the following lines;
   alias net-pf-4 off  #forget IPX
   alias net-pf-5 off  #forget Appletalk
that did it for me.
