I don't think either product/app supports Windows XP as a host properly -
from memory, rdesktop with seamless doesn't work properly on XP as the
'host'. But feel free to prove me wrong.

Subject: [rdesktop-users] seamlessrdp vs 2x application server vs others
(windows XP server with linux client)

Can someone please offer advice on trade-offs between seamlessrdp and the
2x.com application server software?

I would like to use one of them (or something else if you think it is
better) to open windows XP
applications running on an XP server, on a linux client. I have not been
able to sort out the
tradeoffs. I want to open individual applications, rather than the full
desktop. It would be nice to be able to toggle between full screen mode and
a smaller window at will.

In particular I care about the following:
1) do I need to patch the XP OS to allow multiple applications (e.g.
powerpoint, excel, and word) to be opened simultaneously? I anticipate that
only one linux user will be opening all the applications as one XP user. I
understand that this would not be an issue if I ran the terminal server
version of the OS, but what about XP which is ostensibly a single user OS?
2) is the level of security equivalent between the two products?
3) is the usability of the two products equivalent in terms of performance,
installation, and usability?
4) do they both require special purpose client software on the linux box, or
is rdesktop sufficient?
4) I have seen a bit of discussion regarding GPL violations for the 2x
application server. Was this sorted out?

Thanks

Phil
