Dear All,

We are seeking a computational research scientist interested in studying th=
e roles of non-coding RNAs in cancer. The successful applicant will join th=
e Cancer Research UK RNA Biology Group at the Cancer Research UK Manchester=
 Institute (www.cruk.manchester.ac.uk).

Located in Manchester UK, the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute is a =
centre for excellence in cancer research. We occupy state-of-the-art labora=
tories and provide exceptional core facilities including next generation se=
quencing, mass-spectrometry, advanced imaging, High Performance Computing, =
bioinformatics, histology, and flow cytometry. We are core-funded by Cancer=
Research UK (www.cancerresearchuk.org), the world=92s largest cancer organ=
isation, are an Institute of The University of Manchester (www.manchester.a=
c.uk), and are adjacent to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust (www.christie.=
nhs.uk), one of the largest cancer treatment centres in Europe. These facto=
rs combine to provide an exceptional environment in which to pursue basic, =
translational and clinical research programmes in a vibrant and dynamic cit=
y surrounded by beautiful countryside and with excellent national and inter=
national transport links.

The RNA Biology Group is a highly interdisciplinary team that integrates so=
ftware engineering, computational biology and bioinformatics with bench and=
clinical science, in order to perform integrated studies of transcriptiona=
l systems and how they are disrupted in cancer cells. The group has a parti=
cular focus on long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), and makes heavy use of globa=
l genomics technologies including RNA-seq, microarrays and quantitative pro=
tein mass spectrometry to investigate lncRNA function both in model systems=
(see for example (Bitton et al. 2011, Mol Syst Biol)) and in clinical coho=
rts.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with bench scientists in=
the group to explore the role of long non-coding RNAs in regulating the dy=
namics of protein expression. They will be an excellent programmer and conf=
ident applying statistical approaches and techniques from machine learning.

Experience in analysing complex biological datasets would be advantageous, =
however applicants from a purely computational background, who are able to =
demonstrate their ability to work successfully across disciplines, will als=
o be considered. Excellent programming skills in a subset of R, Matlab, C, =
C++ or Java are a prerequisite, while parallel programming and SQL experien=
ce would both advantageous.

For more information and to apply, please visit our website at cruk.manches=
ter.ac.uk.
