yep looking at
http://packages.debian.org/stable/kde
shows they are running 3.5.10 for many of the kde libraries and stuff,
but not for many of the applications like the kdewebdev,
kdewallpapers, even kdebase is 3.5.9... The translations, games,
network and newsticker and kopete are the only 3.5.10 version packages.

It should not matter - KDE applications work fine if they are the same
major/minor release (3.5) and different patch levels (9/10), they only
have real problems if one of the first two are different (I can never
remember the official names for the version numbers).

Did you upgrade from kubuntu to debian, and if so perhaps you are
running the kubuntu 3.5.10 kde with the debian 3.5.9 kdewebdev package?

How did you go with Kate - does it complain too? and which version are
you using with Kate (3.5.10/3.5.9)
