As I don't have GNOME, I cannot test it, but as a small hint, try to run=20
Quanta from a (X) terminal by doing the following:
export KDEDIRS=3Dpath_to_Quanta (like /opt/kde3 or /usr/kde or whatever)
quanta

and see if it helps.
