I went through the same process a couple of months ago when I decided to
abandon Windows XP and go towards Linux as my workstation.

Tested and evaluated every Window Manager and Desktop Environment. Xfce
became my favorite, the best balance between power and simplicity.

Then I went looking for an HTML/CSS/PHP IDE, after an exhaustive search,
I settled on Quanta. Quanta led me back to KDE and I've grown to
appreciate it, it might use up more processes and memory but I've been
able to find KDE alternatives to every Window app I needed replacing.

So I'm stuck on KDE for now, Quanta and the Krusader file manager have
given me a reason to enjoy my stay.
