Hello,

I still have to plod with Cisco's RIP implementation and MD5 auth
together with ripd.

Previously I run quagga (0.99.5) which I had patched with [1] and was
running fine for around two years.

As I upgraded now to Debian Lenny which brings quagga 0.99.10, I also
patched that one and rebuilt it, but this time ripd makes troubles.

On starting communicating with the Cisco, ripd really get's stuck. Even
the CLI starts to hang and becomes unusable for about 20sec.

2009/12/15 19:00:22 RIP: SLOW THREAD: task rip_timeout (b7f52300) ran
for 29286ms (cpu time 4ms)
2009/12/15 19:01:16 RIP: SLOW THREAD: task rip_timeout (b7f52300) ran
for 27480ms (cpu time 0ms)
2009/12/15 19:46:24 RIP: SLOW THREAD: task rip_read (b7f14300) ran for
28502ms (cpu time 0ms)

None of the debugging outputs were really helpful so far. I just noted
that it is doing this, when ripd is receiving something from the Cisco.

2009/12/15 19:50:57 RIP: RECV RESPONSE version 2 packet size 524
2009/12/15 19:50:57 RIP: family 0xFFFF type 3 (MD5 authentication)
2009/12/15 19:50:57 RIP: RIP-2 packet len 504 Key ID 0 Auth Data len 20
2009/12/15 19:50:57 RIP: Sequence Number 881733
...24 routes...
2009/12/15 19:50:57 RIP: family 0xFFFF type 1 (MD5 data)
2009/12/15 19:50:57 RIP: MD5: 602CADABCD9B09DEABCD1CE6DABCD8
2009/12/15 19:50:57 RIP: RIPv2 MD5 authentication success
2009/12/15 19:50:57 RIP: SLOW THREAD: task rip_timeout (b7f14300) ran
for 28601ms (cpu time 0ms)

Someone can say if there were deeper changes which could have made the
ripd MD5 patch no longer work?

Cheers,
Andreas
