AFAIK the main motivation of Pradosh patch is too potentially eliminate the
need for periodic BGP full table scan (to alleviate every minute CPU spike)
and to make recursive next hop update happen in more timely manner.

Solution of problem described by your commit is just byproduct of his work
(which is of course fine anyway).
