The question is what formats are supported by the software that
authenticates the user. 
A user can be authenticated by rebinding to the ldap database or by
fetching the UserPassword and comparing that internaly. In the frist case
the LDAP server needs to know the password format in the other case the
app itself needs to implement the algorithm.
Generating the hash is normaly not a big issue as many scripting languages
have functions for this.
