I uncomented  SHADOWLIBS  and it solved my problem.

I was able to get qmail-ldap to compile after doing these changes:

In the Makefile
-Uncommenting the 'SHADOWLIBS=-lcrypt' line.
-Adding $(SHADOWLIBS) as Claudio mentioned.

In qldap.c
-Switching all occurrences of NULL to 0 as you mentioned.

After this.. it all compiled.  Now I get to try it out.
