the reason you "don't know" is because you haven't read the  
documentation- or if you did, you didn't retain the knowledge very well.

this is all explained in the files which came with ezmlm or ezmlm-idx,  
whichever one you may be using.

it's also explained on http://www.ezmlm.org/ as well.
