Thanks Dave,

I did end up hardcoding ./Maildir/ in late last night, instead of getting it
to read control/defaultdelivery, and it all started working wonderfully.

strange thing is, i also tried taking the service down, then running the
contents of the run file from the console, and it picked up everything no
problem, starting delivering happily... thanks for the ps line - i was
having trouble finding out exactly what it was running... (ie. it wasn't
showing up in a "ps auxwww | grep qmail" )

I've left it hardcoded, as the default delivery location is unlikely to
change anytime in the next 3 years for these guys.

Cheers,

Chris

First, restart qmail via svscan. Then do "ps -ef|grep
qmail-lspawn". If you don't see something like:

  root 835 826 0 Sep18 ? 00:00:02 qmail-lspawn ./Maildir/

then the problem is definitely with the "`cat
/var/qmail/control/defaultdelivery`" bit. About the only thing that
could go wrong there, given that it works interactively as root, is a
permission problem. But that can't be the problem, because qmail-start
is run as root.

I'd try hardcoding ./Maildir/ on the qmail-start command line.

If you *do* see "qmail-lspawn ./Maildir/", then the problem must be
in real .qmail files somewhere.
