I'm also interested to be able to see selected features even when hiden by others. \
When working with polygons only represented by a contour line, you can completly miss \
a selected polygon if all other contiguous features are drawn after the selected one. \
A workaround I found for features within the same layer is to change the rendering \
order by using the expression is_selected() in ascending order (Layer Properties -> \
Symbology -> Layer Rendering -> Control feature rendering order). Hovewer, this needs \
to be done each time a layer is added and won't help if an other layer is on top and \
hide the feature you selected.

Is it possible to control the rendering order of features independently from their \
own layer so that all selected features from any layer could be repainted last to \
appear on top of everything else?

If there is a large cluster of points obscuring the selected point, even that method \
will not work.

Has there been any interest in changing this behavior in QGIS?

I tested this in QGIS and the user was correct.
