Yepp, python-ldap should not crash.

I've applied the patch you provided to my local working tree. It 
works. Thanks for submitting it.

Well, this is not a complete solution for this kind of problems. 
Maybe assertion statements in each method of 
ldap.ldapobject.LDAPObject could be of better help here...
